WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
Core connectors and relationship words
Small words carry the logic of Biblical Aramaic. דִּי can introduce a relative clause, mark a genitive relation, or introduce content; it does not have one English equivalent. קֳדָם literally locates something ‘before’ and often functions in formal language. בְּרַם marks contrast, while וּכְעַן advances discourse with ‘and now.’ Learn these as clause tools, not as a decontextualized glossary.

APPROVED STUDY LAYERS
Source-specific guidance from the curriculum.
Learning objective
Acquire a source-tagged core of connectors and prepositions whose meaning is chosen from actual clauses.
Morphology and syntax
OSHB tags the displayed items as relative/content particle, negator, prepositions, and discourse connectors according to token.
Dialect boundary
Biblical Aramaic of Daniel and Ezra. Later Targumic, Jewish Babylonian, and Zoharic forms are not imported into this lesson.
Practice
Classify each item as relation, negation, spatial/relational preposition, or discourse connector. Give two different functions of דִּי from the cited verses.
Answer key
דִּי relation/content; לָא negation; מִן/עַל/קֳדָם/עִם/עַד prepositional relations; בְּרַם contrast; וּכְעַן discourse transition. דִּי marks possession/association in שְׁמֵהּ דִּי־אֱלָהָא and introduces content in דִּי לָא יְהוֹבְדוּן.
Source notes
Every item is attested in the cited Daniel passages; none is imported from a later dialect.
