WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT

Wisdom reader

The opening אַשְׁרֵי אָדָם introduces the person who finds Wisdom. From verse 14 onward, feminine suffixes and pronouns refer to personified חָכְמָה: her gain, her right hand, her ways, and those who grasp her. The reader must keep that antecedent active across six verses.

Close translation — ‘Happy is the person who finds wisdom, and the person who obtains understanding. For her gain is better than the gain of silver, and her produce than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and none of your desires can compare with her. Length of days is in her right hand; in her left are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who grasp her, and those who hold her fast are called happy.’
