WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
Sheva inside a real word
The opening Bet carries sheva in בְּרֵאשִׁית. In the course's selected reading tradition it is heard with a short vowel in the opening syllable, be-. This is a better way to learn sheva than pretending that the two-dot sign always has one fixed sound. Later examples will show silent and tradition-sensitive cases.
