Dagesh can also mark doubling

A dagesh is not always merely a b/v, k/kh, or p/f switch. In forms such as דִּבֵּר, a dagesh in the middle radical belongs to a pattern historically associated with consonant doubling. You do not need to reconstruct historical phonology now; simply learn that “dot inside a letter” has more than one possible function.
