WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT
Ayin is historically a guttural consonant, and several living Jewish traditions still pronounce a distinct throat sound. Many modern speakers pronounce it weakly. Regardless of pronunciation, ע is never the same written letter as א. This distinction matters for spelling, roots, dictionary lookup, and later interpretation.
