WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT

The major Hebrew action-word patterns

Hebrew action words are organized into recurring patterns traditionally called binyanim. These patterns help the reader recognize how a root is being used, but no pattern has one English meaning that works for every verb. The course therefore teaches each pattern through real lexical families, not slogans such as “Piel always means intensive.” This overview establishes the names; later reference slides show representative qatal, yiqtol, participle, imperative, and infinitive forms for each major pattern.
